Send a condolence note

Palm Beach, Florida---Our Mom, Gilda Ellis Beane, 81, died at her son’s home in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Saturday morning, November 25th, 2006, just before the sun came up.  She was born on June 12th, 1925, the daughter of Lawrence and Frances (Bergeron) Ellis in Claremont, New Hampshire.

As a young woman, she attended Case Western University in Cleveland, and after the War returned to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire where she worked as a social worker.  She met our Dad in 1947 and they married, built a house, and raised five children, all boys, Alan of Florida, Glenn of Hanover, NH, Doug of Moultonboro, NH, Scott of Laconia, NH and David of Sanbornton, NH.  Other survivors include eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren, a brother, Ted, of Pensacola, Florida; two stepsisters, Laurie Douglas of Portsmouth, NH and Kathy DiLuzio of Guilford, CT and nephews and nieces.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Larry.

In 1975, our Mom went back to college to study business and art at Harvard/Radcliffe in Boston.  In 1978, she moved to Palm Beach, Florida, and started her own business, Gilda Ellis Beane Fine Arts, which she was active in until the summer of 2005 when she was stricken with breast cancer.

Our Mom loved her family, her friends, nature, art, music – her favorite songs were “The Pearl Fishers Duet” by Bizet and “I’ve Got A Woman” by Ray Charles – her dogs, and dancing.  In her heart she was a dancer, and she danced thru her life, every minute of it, ‘til the very end.

There will be no calling hours.

Private celebrations of her life will be held in New Hampshire and in Palm Beach, Florida.
