George L. Schaffnit

Belmont——-George L Schaffnit, 89, formerly of Cate’s Mobile Home Park, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Sunday, March 3, 2002. Mr. Schaffnit was the widower of Marion (Daley) Schaffnit who died in 1992.

Mr. Schaffnit was born August 19, 1912 in West Haven, CT, the son of Leonard and Rose (Brooks) Schaffnit. He lived in Clinton, CT for many years before moving to Belmont, NH twenty years ago. He was a railroad conductor for the New York-New Haven-Hartford Railroad for 36 years retiring in 1977.

Mr. Schaffnit was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Parish in Belmont. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Schaffnit of Gilmanton, NH and James M. Schaffnit of Rocky Hill, CT; a daughter, Lin Coyle of Killingworth, CT; and 5 grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Parish, Belmont, NH. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, CT

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Parish, PO Box 285, Belmont, NH 03220 or to the Laconia Senior Center, 17 Church Street, Laconia, NH
