Edna V. Murgatroy

Laconia——Mrs. Edna V. Murgatroy, 85, formerly of 147 Lake Street, Laconia died at the Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith on Sunday, March 10, 2002. Mrs. Murgatroy was the widow of Roy W. Murgatroy who died in 1999.

Mrs. Murgatroy was born March 27, 1916 in Gilford, NH the daughter of Sophia A. & Andrew G. Johnson. She lived most of her life in the Lakes Region. She graduated from Laconia High School in 1934 and on September 4, 1934, she married Roy W. Murgatroy. They were married for 65 years. Mrs. Murgatroy
started working at Bayside Cemetery in 1943 when help was needed due to the war. She continued working there for 34 years, and began as secretary/treasurer of Bayside Cemetery Association in 1954 and retired in 1992 from that position. She was a long time member of the Evangelical Baptist Church and was
secretary of the Missionary Committee.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law and son, Shirley and James R. Murgatroy, Sr. of Laconia; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Ken Kneuer, of Gilford, NH; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Murgatroy of Florida; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Richard J. Murgatroy in 1998; a grandson, James R. Murgatroy, Jr. in 2001; four sisters, Annie Clarke, Lillian Noyes, Clara Langlois and Gladys Hackett; and by two brothers, Arthur Johnson and Carle Johnson.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held later this Spring at the Evangelical Baptist Church, 12 Veterans Square, Laconia.

Burial will be in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evangelical Baptist Church, 12 Veterans Square, Laconia, NH 03246
