June (Higgins) Smith

Belmont----June (Higgins) Smith, 82, of  9 Berry Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Friday, May 2, 2008.  Mrs. Smith was

the widow of Crofton H. Smith who died in 1988.

         Mrs. Smith was born February 20, 1926 in Mt. Desert, Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Cora (Bracey) Higgins.

         Mrs. Smith lived in Laconia for a few years before moving to Belmont in 1955.  She was employed at Allen Rogers for many years.

         Mrs. Smith attended the Belmont Baptist Church. 

Mrs. Smith loved her cat, “Skippy” and loved making Easter baskets for the family and telling stories to anyone who would listen.  She also enjoyed picking her berries, singing, playing her guitar and yodeling. Each year, Mrs. Smith would make clothes for the Santa Fund.

         Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, James L. Smith of Laconia and Wayne D. Smith and Steven A. Smith both of Belmont; three daughters, Shirley Carder of Laconia, Janis McNamara of Belmont and Diane Reed of Gilmanton; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Davis, of California and several nephews and nieces.

         There will be no  calling hours.

         A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:00am at the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont, NH.  Rev. James F. Smith, Pastor of the Belmont Baptist Church, will officiate

         In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 2 Wall Street, Manchester, N.H. 03101 or to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, N.H. 03247.

         Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. is in charge of the arrangements.
