Virginia "Ginny" W. Phelps

Laconia-----Virginia ‘Ginny” W. Phelps, 95, of the Taylor Community and formerly of 48 Jefferson Street, Lakeport, died at Ledgeview, Taylor Community, on Thursday, May 15, 2008.  “Ginny” was the widow of Gilbert A. Phelps who died in 2003.

“Ginny” was born August 18, 1912 in Laconia, N.H., the daughter of Robert and Carrie (Foster) Walker.  She lived most of her life in Laconia.  In 1932, she graduated from Bridgewater State College and was an elementary school teacher for the Laconia School District, teaching at Mechanic St. School.  She also taught at the Laconia State School.  She retired in 1972.

“Ginny” was a member of the United Baptist Church of Lakeport where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the Church’s Women’s Group.  “Ginny” was a member of the Lakes Region Retired Teachers’ Association.  She enjoyed camping in Sandwich.

“Ginny” is survived by son, Clinton Phelps, and wife, Winnie, of Lakeport; daughter-in-law, Ann Phelps; seven grandchildren, Mike Phelps and wife, Dawn, of Belmont, Dennis Phelps and wife, Shelley, of Lakeport, Kim Lacasse and husband, Scott, of Gilford, Jenn Mooney and husband, Scott, of Gilford, Jim Phelps and wife, Lisa, of Laconia, Karmen Gifford and husband, Mark, of Laconia and Holly Summers and husband, Alan, of Concord; fifteen great grandchildren; a brother, Ed Weston, of  Keene and several nephews and nieces.  In addition to her husband, “Ginny” was predeceased by a son, Karl W. Phelps, and by a sister, Elizabeth McVey.

There will be no calling hours.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 11:00AM at the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, N.H.  Rev. Sharron Lamothe, Pastor of the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, 23-35 Park Street, Lakeport, N.H. 03246.
