Barbara Brodrick Ostrand

Gilford-----Barbara Brodrick Ostrand, 85, formerly of 176 Gunstock Hill Road, Gilford, passed peacefully on May 23, 2008.  She was the loving wife and best friend of the late Roy C. Ostrand.  Barbara was born in Quincy, Mass. on July 24, 1922, the daughter of Ruth (Milliken) McAllister and Richard G. Brodrick.  She was a graduate and recipient of high honors of the Waltham schools.

         While residing in Hanover, N.H., Barbara was secretary to the English Dept. Chair at Dartmouth College while Roy was employed by Northland Skis.  As owners of Tabor’s Marina, Glendale, N.H., Barbara and Roy enjoyed the many friendships they established and the beauty of Lake Winnipesaukee and the playground it provided the family.

         Barbara was an avid reader, wonderful pianist and loved dancing to Glenn Miller and big band music.  Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family at home, skiing or vacationing in Wells Beach, Maine and Cape Cod.

         The family includes two daughters, Janet O. Plummer and her husband, Doug, Kris O. Piche and her husband, Ron; a son, William Tabor Ostrand, and his wife, Lynn; three grandsons; two granddaughters; two great granddaughters and one great grandson.  She is survived by two brothers, Atty. Richard G. Brodrick and Judge William S. Brodrick.  She was predeceased by her sister, Mrs. Nancy (Brodrick) Tenney. 

         At Mrs. Ostrand’s request, there are no calling hours.  A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family.

         In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Barbara’s memory to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, N.H.03246 or the charity of one’s choice.
