Helen Maxcy Hill

Laconia-----Helen Maxcy Hill, of The Taylor Community, died on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Ledgeview, Taylor Community.  She was the widow of Arthur W. Hill who died in 1984.  Born born in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of Robert F. and Blanche (Cosley) Maxcy.  She had lived in the Taylor Community since 1989, coming from Belmont, N.H. where she lived during her married life.  Previous to that, she lived in Laconia. 

Mrs. Hill attended both Wellesley and Wheelock Colleges and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Gorham State Teachers’ College (now a part of the University of Southern Maine) and her Masters’ Degree in Education from Plymouth State Teachers’ College.  Mrs. Hill taught thirty-seven years in the Laconia School District. She specialized in reading and taught first and second grade students and taught English to foreign students in night school.

Over the years, Mrs. Hill accumulated a collection of almost 200 dolls.

         Mrs. Hill was a member of the Wellesley Club, the Harmony Grange, Pomona and state and national granges, was a charter member of the Belmont Historical Society, the Congregational Church Friendship Club, the Lakes Region Retired Educators, being a charter member and former treasurer for twenty-eight years and the N.H. State Retired Educators Associations.  She also served twenty years as chairman of the Belmont Library Trustees and was a gift-giving life member of the New Hampshire Farm Museum.

Mrs. Hill is survived by a nephew, Robert Maxcy, of Holliston, Mass. and by one niece, Anne Newbury, of South Portland, Maine.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Following cremation, she will be interred in the Park Cemetery, Hill lot in Tilton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, N.H. 03247-7312 or to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, N.H. 03247.
