Howard A. Smith

Belmont - Howard A. Smith, 80, of Depot Street, passed away peacefully, with dignity and grace, at home on Thursday, May 10, 2007, with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was born in Sanbornton, NH on February 24, 1927 the son of the late Aura & Lena (Blackey) Smith both of Sanbornton. 

He worked at Lewis & Saunders as a tubing fabricator for 26 years retiring fifteen years ago.  His hobby included gardening and was a master wood worker and loved creating one of a kind items with his hands. He was a machinist by trade, a loving and devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, beloved son, a devoted brother, and a loyal friend.

Howard is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara E. Smith, of Belmont; two daughters and their families, Auralie and husband, Reginald Baird, of Maine; Deborah Yates of Virginia; three sons and their families, Dennis Smith and his wife, Beth, of Florida; Arthur and wife, Rosella Betourne, of Belmont; Gary and wife, Kathy Betourne, of Lochmere, and Randy Betourne of Gilford; one brother and his family, Roger and his wife, Mary Ann Smith, of Belmont; his niece, Annette, and her husband, Mike Otis, and their family of Sanbornton.   He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Elwin Smith, and his sister, Elsie Bedard, all of Sanbornton.

On behalf of Howard’s family, we would like to thank Dr. M. Selleck, Dr. R. Friedlander, Dr. C. Catcher  of LRGHealthcare;  Sherri Cesati, Director of Nurses and staff of the Oncology Department at LRGHealthcare, along with the staff at the Community Health & Hospice for their kindness and concern during our family’s time of need.

According to Mr. Smith’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.  Arrangements for memorial services are not complete and will be set at a later date.
