Eugene J. Morin

Laconia-----Eugene J. Morin, 89, formerly of 19 Gilman Street, died at the St. Francis HealthCare Center, Court St. on May 1, 2006 following a long illness.

Mr. Morin had been a lifelong resident of Laconia, born the sixth child in the large family of Frank C. and Marie Anne (Brochu) Morin on July 12, 1916.

Mr. Morin graduated from Laconia High School and worked 42 years as a tool and die maker and foreman at Scott & Williams, Inc., in Laconia and Lakeport, retiring in 1980. He would take pleasure in reminiscing with his family about his days as a submarine mechanic at the Watertown (MA) Arsenal and the Portsmouth (NH) Naval Shipyard during a two-year period in the 1940s as well as his days working for his father and grandfather, J.P. Morin, in the family-owned Belknap Mills Corporation, commonly called “Morin’s Mill” at the time and now the Belknap Mill Society. Mr. Morin and his wife, Lorraine (Boutin), who predeceased him in 1988, owned and operated Lorraine’s Beauty Salon on Union Avenue in Laconia for many years.

Mr. Morin was a devoted father to sons and daughters-in-law, Peter Morin of Gilford, NH, Thomas & Cheryl Morin of Northfield, NH, Frank & Judith Mori
of Thompson, ND; daughters and sons-in-law, Anne & Gerald MacKissock of Clifton Park, NY and Faye & Jack Cochrane of Belmont, NH. He will be remembered by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The brother to ten siblings, he leaves behind his sisters, Rachel Gilbert, Lauretta Normandin, Theresa Guilmette and Yvonne Morin all of Laconia, Lorraine Lavoie of Gilmanton and thirty-six nieces and nephews. His sister, Jeannette Hurd, and brothers, Lionel, Bertram, Rene and Robert Morin and daughter-in-law, Judith (Davison) Morin, predeceased him. Family and friends may call at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH on Thursday, May 4, 2006 from 7:00-9:00PM using the Carriage House entrance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 10:00AM by Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor of the Church. Private burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Tilton, NH.

If a memorial contribution is desired, a contribution may be made to St. Francis HealthCare Recreation Fund, 406 Court Street, Laconia, NH 03246 or to one’s preferred charity.
