Helen M. (Little) Knipping

Gilford-----Mrs. Helen M. (Little) Knipping, 60, of Lake Shore Road, a long-term resident of Gilford, passed suddenly on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia.

Helen was born on October 3, 1944 in Cortland, New York to Walter and Dorothy Iva (Green) Little.

Upon her mother's death in 1946, Helen and her sisters, Virginia, Ethel and Dorothy and her brothers, Raymond and Carlton, went to live with their aunt and uncle, Mable and Merrill Green, along with their cousins, Marie, Betty, Richard and Eugene Green.

Helen previously worked as a nurse's aid in Missoula and Helena, Montana, moving with her family to Laconia in 1974. Earlier in her career, Helen worked for the Laconia District Court, and for over eleven years was a highly successful salesperson with Avon Products Co.

More recently, Helen worked as a receptionist with the U. S. Forest Service in Laconia, retiring in 1999 due to her health. Helen was an active member of the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, having previously served as the president of the Ready For Service Club, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, co-chair of the annual Yankee Fare and currently served as a member of the Deaconate Board, Music Committee and as a Vinnie Fund Youth Camp Coordinator. Helen was a member and treasurer of the First New Market Colonial Militia Co. and a member of the 3rd New Hampshire Regiment, both Colonial and Revolutionary War period historical re-enactment companies. Helen loved to travel and encamp with these militia companies. She loved to read; enjoyed time with her grandchildren, children and family, and had a special gift for organizing events. She was compassionate, loving and helpful to those who came into contact with her. She also enjoyed learning about the culture of her Iroquois ancestry and attending American Indian pow-wows.

Survivors include her husband of forty-three years, Wayne Knipping; her son, Scott, and his wife, Saundra, along with their daughters, Persephone, Gwendalynn and two week old Gianna; daughter, Sherilyn (Knipping) McColligan, her husband, Mark; grandsons, Brandyn and Dilyn and granddaughters, Crystal-Lyn Knipping and Kaitlyn McColligan and Amber Knipping, daughter of her son, Jeff. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Jeff; her sister, Virginia Kerr; her parents and her aunt and uncle whom she called "Mom" and "Dad" and by Betty, Richie, Marie Glazier and Eugene Green.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 27, 2005 from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 1:00PM at the United Baptist Church, Park Street, Lakeport, NH. Rev. Sharron Lamothe, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, Tools of Hope and Blanket Fund, 35 Park Street, Lakeport, NH 03246.
