Clifford P. Mason

Gilford, NH----Clifford P. Mason, 85, of 42 Orchard Drive, Gilford, NH and formerly of East Providence, R.I., died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, NH on Friday, May 13, 2005.

Mr. Mason was born December 1, 1919 in Camden, Arkansas, the son of Richard K. and Lena E. (Henderson) Mason. He attended Magnolia A & M and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1942. He served in the U. S. Navy for twenty-two years. He was Executive Officer of the Navy ROTC Unit at Brown University, Providence, RI and was Commanding Officer at the Naval Reserve Manpower Center, NTC, Bainbridge, Maryland. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense - Fleet Clasp; Asiatic Pacific; American Theatre; European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre; Philippine Liberation. He was Commander at the time of his retirement in 1963. He was a math teacher and business manager at the Providence Country Day School, Providence, RI, retiring in 1981.

Mr. Mason was a member of the Community Church of Providence and was Deacon of the Church and Treasurer of the Men's Fellowship at the Church.

Mr. Mason was a driver for the American Red Cross and enjoyed playing bridge and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Muriel (Braun) Mason, of Gilford, NH; two daughters, Virginia M. Dewey, of Scituate, RI and Amy M. Michalski of Gilford, NH; one step-son Stephen Giddings of Potomac, MD; one step-daughter Carol Cochrane of Amherst, MA; two grandchildren, Susan E. Dewey and Peter A. Dewey, both of Scituate, RI; a sister, Elizabeth Driscoll of Indian Rocks Beach, Fl; two nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by a son, Richard K. Mason, and by his brothers and sisters.

There will be no calling hours.

A Graveside Service, with Full Naval Honors, will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 11:00AM at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049 or to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Rte 101 Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.
