Laconia---Ann L. Stewart, 84, formerly of 105 Fenton Avenue, died at the Belknap County Nursing Home Friday, March 20, 2009. She was the widow of Paul N. Stewart Sr. who died in 1973.

Ann was born November 26, 1924, in Holyoke, Mass., the daughter of Walter J. and Ella R. (Schenker) Lamay. She had been a resident of Laconia since 1952 coming from North Quincy, Mass.

Ann had been employed at the Memorial Middle School as a secretary from 1974-1991. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.

Ann also worked for several years at the American Red Cross and Citizens Bank. She volunteered at the St. Francis Home and for many years at LRGH, where she was once awarded the title of Volunteer of the Year. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was fiercely protective of them while constantly lauding their accomplishments to whomever was trapped nearby and forced to listen to her. Above all, she will be remembered for her outgoing personality and her compassionate and caring nature.

Survivors include her three children: Paul N. Stewart, Jr. and his wife, Sandra; Susan A. Youssef and her husband, Fouad; and Peter L. Stewart and his wife, May; all of Laconia; 11 grandchildren: Shannon Gaffney, Ryan Stewart and Courtney Stewart; Joshua, Travis, Zachary and Nadia Youssef; Aaron, Kate, Alexander and Sara Stewart; and 7 great-grandchildren.

There are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia. Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant.

Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home Activities Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia, NH 03246 or the charity of your choice.
