Frances M. Clay

Gilford----Frances M. Clay, 100, died at the Dover Rehabilitation & Living Center, Dover, N.H. on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Mrs. Clay was the widow of Ansel R. Clay who died in 1992.

Mrs. Clay was born October 19, 1908 in Cheney, Washington, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Newhouse) McComb. She had lived in Concord, Andover, Rye and Gilford while living in New Hampshire.

Mrs. Clay was employed as a bookkeeper at Hall Brothers Fuel Co. in Concord. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Laconia and was a former member and secretary of the Andover Women’s Club.

Mrs. Clay is survived by two daughters, Natalie C. Fogarty of Laconia and Kemis Rodgers, of Eliot, Maine; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; eight great, great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Cass, of Tilton; and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Clay was predeceased by three sons, Donald E. Clay, Douglas W. Clay and Kenneth A. Clay; one daughter, Marjorie Hutchins; two sisters, Margaret Hazelton and Ethel McIntire; a brother Clare McComb; a half brother Ray McComb and a granddaughter, Kathryn Gelinas.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 241 Province Street, Laconia, on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2:00pm.

Burial will be in the family lot in Elbow Pond Cemetery, Andover, N.H. at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 241 Province Street, Laconia, NH, 03246 or to a charity of one’s choice.
