George A. Sawyer Send a condolence note

Gilford-----George A. Sawyer, 86, of 11 Davis Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Monday, March 31, 2008.  Mr. Sawyer was the widower of Ruth (Nolan) Sawyer who died in 2006.

Mr. Sawyer was born June 24, 1921 in Laconia, N. H., the son of Maurice W. and Rachel (Crosby) Sawyer. 

Mr. Sawyer was a life long resident of Gilford.  He had been a milkman on Lake Winnipesaukee and in the Lakes Region for many years and was owner and operator of Sawyer’s Dairy Bar which he and his wife opened in 1945.

Mr. Sawyer attended Gilford Community Church.  He was a Member of the Mt. Lebanon Lodge #32 F. & A.M., Bektash Temple AAONMS and the Bektash Temple AAONMS Mini Patrol, the Winnipesaukee Shrine Club, the Royal Order of Jesters, the Pilgrim Commandry #010, Knights Templar, SIMADI and a member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks #876.

Survivors include two sons, Peter Sawyer and Roger Sawyer, and a daughter, Nancy Mawson, all of Gilford; four grandchildren, Peter Sawyer, James Sawyer, Pepper Sawyer and Samantha Sawyer, all of Gilford; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Edna R. Welbourn, of Deland, Florida and several nephews and nieces.  In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Sawyer was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Sawyer and Rev. Malcolm Sawyer.

Memorial calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from 6:00-8:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 2:00PM.  Rev. Michael Graham, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

Spring burial will be in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Burns Hospital, c/o Memorial Gift Coordinator, Bektash Shriners, PO Box 4086, Concord, N.H. 03302-4086.
