Richard J. Poor, Sr. Send a condolence note

Alton, NH----Richard J. Poor, Sr., 65, of 29 Lady Slipper Lane, died at his home on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Poor was born November 13, 1942 in Winthrop, Mass., the son of Ralph E. and Nathalie T. (Striebeck) Poor.  He was raised in Winthrop and was a graduate of Winthrop High School.  In 1964, he graduated from General Electric Apprentice School in Lynn, Mass.

Mr. Poor lived in Melrose, Mass. for thirty-two years before moving to Alton, NH eight years ago.  He was employed at General Electric Co.  Lynn, Mass., Aircraft Engine Division, for thirty years, retiring on May 30, 1990. 

Mr. Poor was a member of the Community Church of Alton.  He was a member of the G. E. Apprentice Fraternity, Elfun Society, a founding member of the Greater Boston Chapter-National Spinal Cord Injury Association and served as a trustee for the Alton Cemetery Department. Mr. Poor loved his family above all and his childhood home on Sunset Lake.

Survivors include his wife of forty-four years, Karen Anne (Eggertsson) Poor, of Alton, NH; two sons, Richard Joseph Poor, Jr. and his wife Joanne of Nashua and David Ralph Poor of Westborough, Mass.; one daughter, Kristin Anne Kaplan and her husband Hadriel, of Amherst, N.H.; four grandchildren, Katrina Marie Poor, Kimberly Anne Poor, Benjamin David Kaplan and Adam Richard Kaplan; one brother, William R. Poor and his wife Beth, of Gilford, N.H. and seven nephews.  Mr. Poor was predeceased by his parents, by a brother, Alan F. Poor; by two sisters-in-law,

Patricia Lang Poor and Christine MacDonald Poor and by two nieces, Kathryn Poor and Melissa Poor DeJesus.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2008 from 6:00-9:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H.

A calling hour will be held from 10:00-11:00AM on Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Community Church of Alton, 19 Church St., Alton, N.H. followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00AM also at the Church.

Spring burial will be in the family lot in New Riverside Cemetery, Alton, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Carroll County, PO Box 1620, Wolfeboro, N.H. 03894; or the Greater Boston Chapter-National Spinal Cord Injury Assoc., 2 Rehabilitation Way, Woburn, MA 01801.
