Marjorie J. Foss Send a condolence note

Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.----Marjorie J. Foss, 77, of 103 Crystal Lake Road died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Thursday, March 27, 2008.

Mrs. Foss was born November 25, 1930 in Newton, Massachusetts the daughter of Eva (Christie) and Franklin P. Jackson, Jr.  Mrs. Foss lived in Dennis Port, Mass. for many years before moving to Gilmanton Iron Works twenty-one years ago.  She attended Sargent College in Boston, Mass. and had many side jobs besides being a homemaker.

She was very proud of her Scottish heritage and had a life long love affair with animals; horses and dogs in particular.  She was a licensed riding instructor and was very active in Cape Cod Therapeutic Riding Clinic.  She loved her Australian Shepherds and used several as therapy dogs visiting hospitals and nursing homes.  She was known to many as the “Dog Lady”.

She enjoyed quilting, knitting, skiing and horseback riding.  She loved her family and friends and a “good” vodka martini from time to time. 

Her philosophy in life was “full speed ahead!”  Because of this, her accomplishments were many.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Earle H. Foss, of Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.; a son, Peter J. Foss, and his wife, Holly, of West Yarmouth, Mass.; a daughter, Jacalyn “Jacki” A. Day, and her husband, Richard, of Concord, N.H.; a granddaughter, Heather Anne Foss, of West Yarmouth, Mass.; a brother, Franklin P. Jackson II, of N. Scituate, Mass. and two nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A Graveside Service will be held at the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery, Rte 3, Boscawen, N.H. on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 11:00AM.  Rev. John Davies, Community Health & Hospice Chaplain, will officiate.
