Gertrude B. Warbasse

Northfield-----Gertrude B. Warbasse, 93, died peacefully in her sleep, January 19, 2005 at the Arches Alzheimer Facility, Northfield, NH. Mrs. Warbasse was born October 18, 1911 in Warren, Rhode Island. She grew up on Long Island, NY. After graduation from Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing, she became their head surgical nurse. She met and married Dr. James P. Warbasse, Jr. They moved to New Bedford, MA in 1937 where the doctor set up his medical practice.

Mrs. Warbasse was a lifelong participant in the Eastern Star as well as a 25-year volunteer at St. Lukes Hospital gift shop where many new babies went home in the sweater outfits that she knitted and donated. After the sudden death of her husband in 1992, she moved to New Hampshire to be closer to her daughter and family.

Survivors include her son, Phillip B. Warbasse and his wife, Mary, of Oakham, MA; her daughter, Joan W. Chabot and her husband, Leon, of Plymouth, NH; three grandchildren, Kim Malcolm of Northfield, MA, Jay Chabot of Milford, Ct and Jim Chabot of Phoenix, AZ and two great grandchildren, Patterson and Victoria Malcolm.

There will be no calling hours.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held in April at the Church of the Messiah, Woods Hole, MA.
