Muriel Harman

Center Conway, NH----Beloved Muriel Harman, 62, of 524 Old Mill Road, Center Conway, NH died peacefully at her brother’s home on Thursday, March 17, 2005 following a long illness.

Ms. Harman was born April 20, 1942 in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Walton B. and Dorothy (Hurd) Harman. She grew up in Pawtucket, R. I. and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Connecticut College for Women, New London, Connecticut and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Ms. Harman was employed as a Russian translator in Virginia for two years. She then moved to Boston, MA where she enjoyed her career as an art editor with Houghton-Mifflin. She also worked as a designer for the New York Graphic Society; was an art director for Winthrop Publishers, Inc., and was in charge of fund raising for the Boston Zoological Society. In 1984, she moved to Conway Center, NH.

Ms. Harman was a lover of nature and traveled extensively. She worked tirelessly in conjunction with the Audubon Society to educate wilderness campers and to save Black Bears. She was a member of the Bookbuilders of Boston, a member of the Art Directors Club of Boston and a member of the Boston Athaenum.

Ms. Harman is survived by her brother, Walton H. Harman of Gilford, NH and her niece, Jennifer Harman Thurston, of Dover, NH.

According to her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Audubon Society of NH, 3 Silk Farm Road, Concord, NH 03301.
