Dr. Eugene P. Hyland

Gilford, NH----Dr. Eugene P. Hyland, 79, of 170 Belknap Pt. Road, Broadview, Gilford, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Freedom Village, West Brandywine, Pennsylvania. He was the widower of Martha Van Hyland who died June, 1996.

Dr. Hyland was born April 20, 1925 in Annadale, Staten Island, New York, the son of John and Helen (O'Neill) Hyland.

Dr. Hyland served in the US Navy during WWII as a fighter pilot and later served as a surgeon for the US Army during Vietnam. He came to Gilford in 1975 from Fort Devens and moved permanently to Gilford in 1980 after he retired with the rank of Colonel after serving over 30 years in the service. He became an ER physician at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, NH after he retired from the military.

Survivors include a son, Owen Hyland of San Francisco, Calif.; two daughters, Christine Coffin of Malvern, PA and Colleen Hyland of Ljubljana, Slovenia; two grandchildren, Owen Coffin and Philip Coffin, both of Malvern, PA; a brother John Hyland of Hawthorne, N.J.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 from 6:00-8:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington St., Lakeport, NH on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 11:00AM. Rev. George Soberick, Pastor of the church, will celebrate.

Spring burial will be in the family lot at McCoy Cemetery, Gilford, NH.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Development Department of the Lakes Region General Hospital, Highland Street, Laconia, NH 03246
