Robert James Sprague

Gilford, NH ----- Robert James Sprague, 76, of 66 Terrace Hill Road, Gilford, and Falls Church, VA, died at his summer home on Tuesday, July 30, 2002.

Mr. Sprague was born on October 28, 1925 in Groton, CT, the son of Jonathan and Nell (Sheehan) Sprague. He and his wife spent 55 years summering in the Gilford area with their family. He was also a resident of Fall Church, VA, for over 40 years.

Mr. Sprague served in the US Army Aircorp during WW II and he was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire class of 1952. He worked for the Geological Survey, US Department of the Interior for 10 years as a cartographer and also worked for the US Navy Oceanographic Department for 25 years as an oceanographer retiring in 1985.

Mr. Sprague was a sportsman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed running and ran in several marathons.

Survivors include his wife, Anne, of Falls Church, VA; three daughters, Laine E. Sprague of Fairfax, CA; Kelly A. Sprague and son-in-law Martin Levin of Framingham, MA; Amy K. Sprague and son-in law Michael Inscoe of Springfield, VA; one son, James M. Sprague of Falls Church, VA; one sister, Madeline Fox of Gales Ferry, CT; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Jan L. Sprague.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2002 from 6-8 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH 03246 using the Carriage House entrance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 2, 2002 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington Street, Lakeport, NH. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery in Laconia.

The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, is in charge of the arrangements.
