Belmont-----Claire M. Moynihan, 88, of 4 Concord Street, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Claire was born October 8, 1920 in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of George S. and Delora (Blain) O’Connell. She resided in Newport, R. I. before moving to Belmont in 1946.
Claire was a graduate of Lawrence High School and married John F. Moynihan on Thanksgiving Day, 1939.
Claire was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish in Belmont and was a longtime member of its Altar and Rosary Society, serving as its first President in 1949. Claire taught Religious Education classes for many years.
Claire was a homemaker. She and her husband, John, raised nine children in Belmont. She treasured the times with her children and grandchildren.
The family includes seven sons, Kenneth J. Moynihan of Paxton, Mass., Robert G. Moynihan of Lee, Wayne T. Moynihan of Dummer, Daniel P. Moynihan and Paul J. Moynihan both of Laconia, Mark M. Moynihan of Tilton and Patrick M. Moynihan of Belmont; a daughter, Ann Marie Theroux, of Penacook; twelve grandchildren, Paula Gilligan, Laura Roy, Kevin Moynihan, Audrey Peters, Lucas Moynihan, Ruth Farmer, Andrew Moynihan, Colin Moynihan, Abby Moynihan, Chelsea Moynihan, Alison Moynihan and John Theroux; four great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Boucher, of Rutland, VT; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Claire was predeceased by her husband of fifty-three years, John F. Moynihan, in 1992 and by her oldest son, Capt. John J. Moynihan, U.S.A.F. in 1969.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 from 6:00-9:00PM at St. Joseph Parish, 96 Main St., Belmont, N.H. A Vigil Service will be held at 6:00PM during the calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 10:00AM also at St. Joseph Parish.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, N. H.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Parish, PO Box 285, Belmont, N. H. 03220.
