Laconia---Phillip A. Lange, 77, of 355 Pleasant Street, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 23, 2009.
Phil was born January 18th, 1932 in Littleton, NH, the son of Elmer A. and Julia (Sprague) Lange.
He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of Service during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His many assignments include being stationed in Greenland, Newfoundland, Maine, California, Japan, and Vietnam. In Vietnam he was with the 14th Security Police Squadron out of Nha Trang AB, serving as the NCOIC for the Law Enforcement Section from Dec. 1968 until Dec. 1969.
Following his retirement from the USAF while stationed in New Mexico, Phil returned to NH and earned his Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Plymouth State College. He was an Elementary School Teacher in the Interlakes and Moultonboro School Districts until his retirement in 1992.
Phil had a love for the outdoors enjoying time with his extended family camping, fishing and hunting. He was also very active in youth baseball and scouting organizations in the Laconia area. His love of Fast Pitch Softball culminated when he pitched against the “King and his Court” in an exhibition game in Laconia. Hosting the annual High School Class Reunion was a high point of every summer. One of his greatest joys was the time spent with the “apple of his eye”, granddaughter Melanie visiting historic sites, fishing and woodworking. Their projects will become family heirlooms.
He was a Life Member of the Vietnam Security Police Association and was active in the NH and Lakes Region Retired Teachers Association.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Olive “Rusty” (Blodgett) Lange, of Laconia, a son and his wife, Paul and Lori Lange; and a granddaughter, Melanie Lange all of Nottingham, NH; two brothers, Richard Lange, of Longmont, CO and Joseph Lange, of Sugar Hill, NH and several nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 4:30-5:30 PM, with a Memorial Service immediately following at 5:30PM, in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H. Rev. John Davies, Community Health & Hospice Chaplain, will officiate.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, N.H. 03246 or the Franconia Heritage Museum, PO Box 169, Franconia, N.H. 03580.
