Gilford-----Wilbur L. Tallmadge, 80, of Gilford, died at the Franklin Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 1, 2009.
Mr. Tallmadge was born March 22, 1929 in Wethersfield, Conn., the son of Louis and Eva (Hollister) Tallmadge. He had been a resident of Gilford for the past 14 years coming from Warren, R.I. He had graduated from Admiral Ballard Naval Academy and entered the US Army during the Korean War, in the Artillery Corp. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor.
After leaving the military he entered the family business, an industrial sewing machine dealership and later went on to helm his own business which he ran to the very last day of his life.
Will was a lifetime member and nationally ranked driver with the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) in the later years he became a Steward of the Meet. His interests were history and sports. He had a vast book collection.
Will was a member of the (MOAA) Military Officers of America and a Life Time member of the VFW Post 4405.
His two dogs, Bella and Spike were the joys of his life as was life in Gilford, fast sports cars, his loving wife and being surrounded by laughter.
Will is survived by his wife of thirty years, Marie (Corea) Tallmadge, of Gilford; 2 sons Michael and his wife Sheila of North Providence, R.I. and John and his wife Nancy of Tiverton, R.I.; a step-daughter Dr. Catherine Jaktman and her husband Johan of NSW, Australia; 4 grandchildren Sullivan, Savannah and Nichole Tallmadge and Anna Jaktman.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held in the Chapel at the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 2:00PM. Rev. Jeff Stevens will officiate.
Burial will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his wife Marie who will distribute them to the numerous charities that Will so encouraged.
