Belmont----Maurice Fortin, 74, of 59 Dutile Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

Mr. Fortin was born August 22, 1933 in Laconia, N.H., the son of Emile and Yvonne (Bolduc) Fortin.

Mr. Fortin served in the U. S. Air Force.  He lived in Laconia for several years before moving to Belmont in 1971.

Mr. Fortin was a carpenter by trade and worked in the construction industry for most of his life.  He then was employed by Belmont High School for several years, retiring in 2007.

Mr. Fortin was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish, Belmont.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and woodworking.

Mr. Fortin is survived by his wife of fifty years, Simone (Nadeau) Fortin of Belmont; one son, James A. Fortin, of Belmont; two daughters, Lu-Ann Foley of Massachusetts and Gayle Price of Belmont; six grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Fortin of Laconia and Renaud Fortin of Ceres, Calif.; two sisters, Theresa Drouin of Peterborough, N.H. and Arlene Sayward, of Lochmere and many nephews and nieces.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Fortin was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Paul, and by two sisters, Rita Roukema and Rachel LaPlante.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 4, 2008 from 4:00-7:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Parish, 96 Main Street, Belmont. NH

Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Maurice J. Fortin Memorial Fund c/o Laconia Savings Bank, 62 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H. 03246.
