Send a condolence note

“If you met her, you loved her”

Gilford-----Doris J. Haskell (Dolly) best known as “Ma Haskell” by all, passed peacefully in the company of her children January 12, 2009 at the Lakes Region General Hospital. She will be joining her husband Paul E. Haskell Jr. who died in 1998.

Dolly was born January 10, 1929 in Laconia to Paul P. and Rose (Picard) Belanger.

A long time resident of Potter Hill Road in Gilford she would always tell people “we live by the brook, drop on by anytime”. Ma had just celebrated her 80th birthday. She always enjoyed riding her motorcycle, working in the yard and a good ole hand of rummy. Anyone could stop by and she would make room at the table and “add more water to the pot”.

Ma Haskell worked many years at the Laconia Needle Shop and Scott & Williams before settling down to raise their four children: Sharon and her husband Skip of Eleuthera, Bahamas, Susan and her husband Eugene of Holderness, Linda and her husband Eric of Gilmanton and Paul Haskell III and his wife Debbie of Gilford. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren (Paul IV, Derrick, Aron, Cassidy, Molly & Jacob) as well as her siblings: Emile Belanger of Gilford, Leo Belanger of Laconia and Yvonne Chamberlain of Laconia. She will also be missed by all her nieces, nephews and special friends.

At her request there will be no calling hours. A spring celebration of Ma’s life will be held on June 6th at 11am at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia is in charge of the arrangements.
