Belmont-----Josephine G. Stockwell, 86, of 62 Orchard Hill Road, died in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Mrs. Stockwell was the widow of Leonard Stockwell.

Mrs. Stockwell was born April 19, 1922 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Hervey S. and Dorrice I. (Tenney) Gardner.

Mrs. Stockwell served in the U. S.Navy during WWII. She lived most of her life in Belmont and retired to Zephyrhills, Florida. In 2002, she moved back to Belmont. She was formerly employed at Vernitron Corp. for many years.

Mrs. Stockwell was a member of the Christian Science Church, Laconia. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Stockwell is survived by two sons, Robert L. Hamel of California and Stephen R. Hamel of Florida; a daughter, Martha L. Smith of Belmont; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, George E. Gardner of California and William H. Gardner of North Carolina; a sister, Helen T. Miller of Michigan and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Stockwell was predeceased by her first husband, Roland Hamel, and by a brother, Andrew O. Gardner.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Science Church, 136 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H. 03246.
