John A. Watson, Jr.

Alton---John A. Watson, Jr., 82, of 351 Dudley Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on January 29, 2010.
Mr. Watson was born September 12, 1927 in New York City, New York, the son of John A. and Kathryn (Bruce) Watson.
Mr. Watson served admirably during World War II in the United States Navy where he received an honorable discharge and returned home to marry his sweetheart. He then moved to Long Island, New York where he and his wife raised four children.
In 1968 he and his family moved to Alton where he established and ran a successful automobile service center for many years. He was a member and past president of the Alton/New Durham Lions Club where he worked tirelessly on Camp Pride and was one of the original volunteers with the Alton Volunteer Ambulance Service. His hobbies included woodworking, model airplanes and trains and he thoroughly enjoyed driving the local high school teams to their games.
Mr. Watson is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Joan A. Watson, a son, Michael J. Watson, of Gilford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara L. and Michael R. Elliott of Alton, Linda M. and David J. Mckenney of Alton, Debra A. and Bruce G. Cheney of Laconia, four granddaughters, Kathrine and Jennifer Watson of Gilford, Cheri and Charles Greeley of Alton, Barbara and Robert Sylvestre of Milford and two great grandchildren, Cutlas and Gabriel Greeley, many nieces and nephews,
There will be a memorial service on Friday, February 5th at 5:30 PM at the Community Church of Alton on Church Street in Alton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Church of Alton, Building Fund in Memory of John A. Watson, P.O. Box 997, Alton, N.H. 03809.
