Harry Robert Dow

Laconia----Harry Robert Dow, 78, of 3160 Parade Road, died at his home on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. He was widowed by our mother, Marie E. (Carr) Dow, who died in May of 2004.

He was born June 28, 1931 in Gilford, NH, the youngest son of Richard and Susie H. (Willard) Dow.
Our father was a Veteran and served as an MP in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He lived in Epping for several years before moving to Laconia forty-five years ago. He owned and operated Dow Lumber Company, the family run business, for decades and worked up until the time of his death.

This wonderful man will be remembered for his quit wit, practical jokes, his generous soft heart, his infectious love of animals and his love for his family and friends.

A family man and a father of five Harry Dow is survived by two sons and two daughters. Daniel R. and Nancy Dow of Laconia, Thomas B. Dow and Jean Marie of Gilford, Janet M. Shuey of Fair Grove, Mo, Linda J. and Jerry Labraney of Center Harbor.

Grampa Dow leaves behind thirteen adoring grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also leaves several cousins, a special nephew, Dennis and Jean Ames, of Sanbornton and numerous other nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents and his wife, Harry Dow was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Dow, Ancel Dow and Walter Dow; four sisters, Grace Bach, Florence Shearer, Esther Stalder and Marion Vandewater, and by his daughter, Cynthia J. Dow of Gilford.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 10:00AM at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. using the Carriage House entrance.
