Edith Simms Send a condolence note

Laconia, NH---Edith Simms, 93, of Highland Street, Laconia, died on January 5, 2008 after a short battle with lung cancer.

Edith was born in Marshfield, Wisc., on January 2, 1915, the daughter of Benjamin and Florence Peck.

Edith moved to NH in 1949 when she married Thomas Simms and resided in Moultonboro for many years.  In the 1950s, she and Tom built and ran the first Mobile Station in town.  

Edith and her family were very active in the sled dog racing community.  She made sled dog harnesses and her husband built sleds.  Edith was a member of the NH Extension Service.  After Tom’s death in 1977, Edith moved to Laconia to live with her daughter, Karen Monahan, and her husband, Bob.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, her annual trips to Florida to visit family, and time spent with her nine brothers.

Edith was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Laconia.

Family members include three daughters, Ruth Fredericksen of Pinellas Park, FL, Jane and her husband, Dick Akers, of Williamsburg, VA, and Karen and her husband, Bob Monahan, of Laconia; brothers Sanford Peck and wife, Jackie, of Buchanan, MI, George Peck and wife, Muriel, of Cedaredge, CO, William Peck and wife, Mary, of Orlando, FL, Lloyd Peck of Post Falls, ID and sister-in-law, Arlene Peck, of Spokane, WA.  She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Simms, infant sister, Florence, and brothers, Jesse Peck, Harold Peck, Art Peck, Everett Peck, and Robert Peck.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 241 Province Street, Laconia, NH, 03246.
