Anita Annette Murphy Send a condolence note

Laconia, NH – Anita Annette Murphy, 79, of Lakeside Avenue passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.  Anita, born September 21, 1928 in Rumford, Maine, was the daughter of Joseph and Yvonne Carrier and the beloved wife of Arthur F. Murphy.

         Anita graduated in 1946 from Stevens High School in Rumford, ME and went on to graduate from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1949.  She worked briefly at Massachusetts Memorial and later at the Veterans Hospital in Manchester, NH.  She married in 1956 and resided in Manchester, NH until 1964.  The family relocated to Cleveland Street in Holyoke, MA and remained there until 1992.  During this time, Anita worked as the night supervisor of the coronary care units for Providence Hospital and Holyoke Hospital, retiring from nursing in 1988.  In 1992, Anita and Arthur moved to Laconia, NH.

         Anita was an active golfer and a member of Waukewan Golf Course in Center Harbor, NH and the Northern Pines Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Her passions included cooking and spending time with her family and her 9-month old puppy, Bijou.  She enjoyed gardening, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, and was an avid downhill and cross-country skier.

         She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Arthur F. Murphy, and their five children; Timothy J. Murphy and wife, Linda Lowry, of Hadley, MA, Camille Kennedy and husband, Michael, of Belmont, NH, Kathleen Murphy of Laconia, NH, Daniel Murphy and wife, Lucia, of Anaheim, CA, Thomas Murphy and wife, Laura, of San Francisco, CA as well as two grandchildren; Ryan and Melissa Kennedy.  Other survivors include a brother, Maurice Carrier, and wife, Jean, of Spokane, WA, sisters, Ramona Dryer and husband, Leonard, of West Redding, CT and Lucille Mount and husband, Henry, of Mission, TX as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

         There will be no calling hours.

         A memorial burial service will be held in the spring at Our Lady of the Lakes in Laconia, NH.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.multiplemyeloma.org).
