Corey E. McCallister Send a condolence note

Gilford-----Corey E. McAllister, 91, of Gilford, died unexpectedly January 12, 2008 at home of natural causes.  He had been active and in quite good health until the very last.

Corey was born in Gorham, New Hampshire on July 31, 1916, the son of Corey B. and Blanche B. (Cote) McAllister.  He was the youngest of four children; Frank, Bertha, Irma and Corey.  He and his late wife, Ada F. McAllister, lived in several New Hampshire communities, but lastly in Gilford for over 51 years.

Corey graduated from Plymouth Teachers College in 1937, as did Ada in 1936, and taught for over thirty years in several central New Hampshire public schools including Grafton, Chichester, Ashland, Barrington, Concord and Gilford.

Prior to his teaching career, Corey served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II as a canoneer, Staff Sergeant.  There, he earned several commendations including a Theatre Campaign Ribbon, four Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart.  Corey came home very seriously wounded.

Corey was a member of several civic and professional organizations including the Mount Prospect Lodge #69, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Laconia Post #1670, the New Hampshire Veterans’ Association,  the American Legion Wilkins Smith Post #1, the DAV Meredith Chapter #11 and the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association.  He was also a member of the Gilford Community Church.  At home, he was active in model railroading and in gardening.

Corey was predeceased by Ada, his wife of more than 60 years, and by all of his brothers and sisters.  He leaves his daughter, Jayne R. McAllister, of Gilford, his son, Dennis C. McAllister, of Sitka, Alaska and numerous other in-law by marriage.

No calling hours or church services are planned. 

A military graveside service and a remembrance will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford in the spring at a date as yet undetermined.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. McAllister asked that memorial donations be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, N. H. 03246, who did so much for his wife, Ada, when she past away in April, 2000.
