Daniel M. Gardiner

Gilford, NH-----Daniel M. Gardiner, 46, of Gilford, New Hampshire. Loving husband of Kristen, father of Roy and Benjamin. A 1979 graduate of Pilgrim High School in Warwick, RI, Dan joined the Coast Guard at the age of 17 and retired after 20 years of service as Chief Petty Officer, radioman. Dan sailed on many Coast Guard ships including the H.M.S. Eagle, the Westwind, and the cutters Bear, Jarvis, and Rush. Journeys with the Coast Guard took him to ports all over the world including Fiji, the Far East, and Antarctica. He also spent several years on ships monitoring the waters off the Alaskan coast following the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

After retiring from the Coast Guard Dan began a second career as a computer information systems manager. Most recently, he was employed by Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, NH.

Dan and his wife, Kristen, met in New Orleans at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in 1996 and married in 1998. They lived in Kaneohe, Hawaii; Portland, Oregon; Warwick, RI, before settling in Gilford, NH in 2004.

A gentle and unassuming man, Dan shared his love of music and his technical computer skills with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his mother, Claire M., of Warwick, RI; brother, David, and his wife, Penny, of Swampscott, MA; brother, Thomas A., and his wife, Joan, of Warwick; and sister, Maribeth, and her husband, Paul Gillard, of Warwick; sister-in-law, Anna Puchal, of Barcelona, Spain. He is predeceased by his father, Ernest H., and brother, William E. Gardiner.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 4, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2:00PM at the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford, N. H.  Rev. Michael Graham, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lakes Region General Hospital, Philanthropy Department, 80 Highland Street, Laconia, N. H. 03246.
