Madeline W. Heath

Moultonboro, NH-----Madeline W. Heath, 89 of Moultonboro passed away on January 18th 2006 after a long battle with cancer and a period of declining health. She was born February 11, 1916 on the White family homestead in East Corinth, Vermont, the daughter of Charles Ezekiel and Zilpha C. (Stoddard) White. Madeline was a direct descendant of Hannah Dustin.

She was raised in East Corinth, VT and Lakeport, NH and graduated from Laconia High School in 1934. On May 6, 1939 (“a year from some rainy Friday”) she married Everett M. Heath and they started a long and happy life together. She and Everett owned and operated several stores, settling in Center Harbor in September 1945 and establishing a general store that would become a modern supermarket and hardware operation. Together they grew a business that helped grow the area and would become a major employer in Center Harbor for the next sixty years.

For many years she was the area chairman and fund raiser for the Christmas Seals. She was a fifty year member of Ellacoya Chapter Eastern Star and was active in Four H Club, Cub Scouts, Grange, the Center Harbor Congregational Church Women’s Fellowship and The Holiday Ramblers Clubs in NH, ME, VT and AZ. She was a charter member of the Center Harbor Jr. Christmas Club.

In retirement, she and Everett enjoyed years of traveling to their beloved Wickenburg, Arizona and visiting their many friends, relatives and customers along the way. “Bahana Villa”, their home in the west, was often the first stop and base station in AZ for friends and relatives visiting from the east. Madeline and Everett also served with the International Executive Service Corp, as retail consultants twice in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Everett Morrill Heath in 2001 and brothers Clarence White and Worthy White, sisters Vernie Cate, Eva Ricker, and Sarah White. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Robert & Roberta of Center Harbor, Roger & Martha of Salisbury and Rick & Susan of Moultonborough, three grand daughters Holly Heath, Kimberly Heath, and Heather Heath, and great granddaughter Rubi Madeline Garrow. Also,”daughters” Sarah Heath and Sharon Nelson. She also leaves several nieces and nephews who were very close to her throughout her life.

There are no calling hours.

Graveside services will be Saturday, May 6th 2006 at 11:00 am in New East Corinth Cemetery, East Corinth, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to R&R Respite Center c/o Mary Ackley 580 S. Mariposa Street Wickenburg, AZ 85358-1366 or to the Moultonborough Visiting Nurse Service, PO Box 138, Moultonborough, NH 03254.

The family is very appreciative of all the thoughts, prayers and inquiries as to her condition over the past several months from her many friends and relatives, and to the wonderful and caring staff at Genesis Laconia Center for their excellent level of care.
