Margaret "Maggie" M. Copp

Laconia---Margaret "Maggie" M. Copp, 85, formerly of 15 Lyman Street, Laconia died at the Concord Hospital, Concord, NH on Thursday, January 6, 2005. Mrs. Copp was the widow of George S. Copp who died in 1973.

Mrs. Copp was born December 12 (her mother's birthday), 1919 in Plymouth, NH, the daughter of David F. and Estelle (Packard) Hall. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1937 and graduated from the Laconia Business College in 1939. She lived in Laconia for many years and had been a resident of Epsom Health Care Center for the last four years.

Mrs. Copp started her bookkeeping career at Allen-Rogers Corp. in Laconia. She was later employed as a head teller at Laconia National Bank and later retired from the Melcher & Prescott Agency. In 1990, she returned to work for the Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division. Mrs. Copp was an active member of the South Baptist Church, Laconia serving on various boards and served as the financial secretary for several years. She was a member of the Esther Rebekah Lodge #9 of Laconia for over fifty years and served as Noble Grand in 1954-1955. She was also a Hospice volunteer. In later life, she became an avid golfer at Oak Hill Country Club, Meredith. She enjoyed her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. For most of her life, Maggie was an active bowler.

Survivors include a daughter, Carole Kresco Bartlett, and her husband, Wayne, of Belmont, NH; a son, Robert D. Copp and his wife, Jane, of North Hampton, NH; seven grandchildren, Matthew Kresco and his wife, Patty, of Moultonboro, Kevin Kresco and his wife, Jeanne, of Belmont, Julie Copp Carr and her husband, Tom, of Groton, MA, Jonathan Copp and Jameson Copp both of North Hampton, NH, P.F.C. Alan Bartlett of Fort Gordon, GA and Brett Bartlett of Danbury, NH and several great grandchildren; three stepdaughters, Frances Johnson of Portland, Maine, Eunice Dyer of Standish, Maine, and Laraine Campbell of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Frances Elliott of Windsor Lockes, CT and Eunice Williams of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and five nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, by a stepson, George S. Copp, Jr. and by a stepdaughter, Josie Amendola.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2005 from 2:00-5:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2005 at 11:00AM at the South Baptist Church, 85 Court Street, Laconia, NH. Rev. Barry Armitage, Pastor of the Church, will officiate. Spring burial will be in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Baptist Church, 85 Court Street, Laconia, NH 03246 or Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
