Owen "Tex" Smith

Gilmanton, NH-----Owen "Tex" Smith, 81, of 177 Meadow Pond Road, and formerly of 850 Pleasant St. New Bedford, MA died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, NH on Saturday, January 1, 2005.

Mr. Smith was born December 7, 1923 in Loran, Louisiana, the son of Marcus and Leona (McAdams) Smith. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Mr. Smith lived in New Bedford, Mass for fifty years before moving to New Hampshire nine months ago. He was a member of Local Union #33 for twenty-two years and was employed at the Universal Roofing Co., New Bedford, retiring in 1985. Mr. Smith enjoyed playing cribbage and gardening. He also loved animals, especially chickens, goats, and pigs.

Survivors include three sons, Robert L. Smith of Gilmanton, NH, Pastor William R. Smith of Brockton, MA and Kenneth W. Smith of New Bedford, MA; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Donald Smith, of Florida; two half sisters, Billie Ruth Pendarvis of Louisiana and Dorothy Underwood of Texas; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Ann MacDonald and by two brothers, Lois Smith and Otha Smith.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service
