Laconia------Mrs. Rita T. Brooks, 92, of 21 Ledges Drive and formerly of 72 Edgewater Ave., died at the Congregate Living Center, Taylor Community, on Tuesday, January 6, 2004. Mrs. Brooks was the widow of Walter A. Brooks who died in 1992.

Mrs. Brooks was born September 28, 1911 in Berlin, NH, the daughter of James E. and Mary J. (Buber) Turley. She was a graduate of Berlin High School and Keene Teachers College.

Mrs. Brooks was a former teacher and taught in Wellesley, MA, Meredith and Laconia, NH. She was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association, Opechee Garden Club, Laconia Woman's Club, Eastern Star, a past director of the Taylor Home and a volunteer at the Lakes Region General Hospital.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Laconia Congregational Church.

Survivors include a niece, Patricia Nighswander, of Washington, D.C. and three grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Dr. Raymond Turley and a nephew James Turley.

According to Mrs. Brooks wishes, there will no calling hours and a Graveside Service will be held in the Spring in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery. Date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Congregational Church, Dorcas Fund, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, NH 03246.
