Tilton------Mr. Carl E. Cleveland, Sr., 89, formerly of 33 Hill Road died at the V.A. Medical Center, Manchester on Saturday, January 24, 2004, after a long illness.

Mr. Cleveland was born May 30, 1914 in Manchester, NH, the son of George and Delia (Demers) Cleveland.

Mr. Cleveland attended high school at Coe-Brown Academy and served in the U. S. Navy during WWII.

Mr. Cleveland was a long time employee of Scott & Williams in Laconia. He served on the Winnisquam Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was an active member of the Masons for fifty-four years and was a Master Mason 3rd Degree. He was a member of the Olive Branch Lodge in Plymouth, NH; was a member of the American Legion Wilkins Smith Post No. 1, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Laconia Post #1670 and the Laconia Lodge of Elks No. 876. He was an avid pool player, hunter, fisherman and gardener.

Mr. Cleveland is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Beatrice (Jewett) Cleveland of Tilton, NH; two daughters, Delia Grenier and her husband Michael of Concord, NH and Lou-Ann Grant and her husband Greg of Wolfeboro, NH; four sons, William Cleveland and his wife Patricia of Laconia, NH, Lee Cleveland of Cummings, GA, Charles Cleveland and his wife Kelly of Gilmanton Iron Works and Carl Cleveland, Jr. and his wife Diane of Belmont, NH; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Roulx of Belmont, NH and Margaret Clark of Rochester, NH; one brother, Roland Cleveland of Novato, CA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Browne) Cleveland in 1957 and by several brothers and sisters.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. A Masonic Service will be held during calling hours at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 11:00AM also at the Funeral Home.

Spring burial will be in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Sanbornton, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246. Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH is in charge of the arrangements.
