Lois F. Plimpton

Laconia----Lois F. Plimpton, 77, of 91 Oak Street died Dec.17, 2009, at the Lakes Region General Hospital surrounded by family.
Lois was born June 30, 1932, at home in Jackson, NH, to Lawrence and Margie (Abbott) Flint. She attended Jackson’s one-room school house and then Kennett High School where she graduated in 1950 as class valedictorian. She met the love of her life, Charles H. Plimpton, at Keene Teachers School. She graduated valedictorian in 1954. They were married on June 20, 1952. She received her Masters of Education degree from Boston University. She was an outstanding educator for twenty-eight years, first in Swanzey and then in Laconia at Academy Street School and Woodland Heights Elementary School. After her retirement in 1993, she continued to support educational activities, offering her expertise and support to staff and administration.
Lois was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and served as Theta Chapter President, State President and International Scholarship Committee member. She was honored with the Founders Day Award from Beta Alpha State of NH of Delta Kappa Gamma. The award was given for her outstanding leadership and the honor she brought to the teaching profession. Lois served on the “Reminisce Committee” which volunteered at the Belknap County Nursing Home for many years. This group engaged the residents in active communication and wrote individual books on their experiences which were then illustrated by elementary students and shared with the residents’ families. Lois was a very involved member of Retired Educators. She was an active member of the Congregational Church of Laconia and served on many committees. Lois was inducted into Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Along with her commitment to education, she took an active role in helping troubled youth with her involvement with the Youth Services Bureau and the Court Diversion program.
Lois and Charlie received a commendation from Governor Jeanne Shaheen for their many years of service to the Laconia community.
She was predeceased by her sister, Florence E. Flint. Her family includes her husband, Charles H. Plimpton, of Laconia, her sons, Jonathan and his wife, Nanci, and their children, Taylor and Kelsey of Northfield, Stephen and his girlfriend, Marcia Wadsworth, of Laconia and Paul and his wife, Doreen, and their children, Cassie and Reid of Belmont.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00AM at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N. H. Rev. Dr. Warren H. Bouton, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.
Burial services for the family will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, N.H.
