Sugar Hill, NH----Chester A. Smith, Jr. 77 of 131 Hadley Road died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, Friday, December 5, 2008.

Chester was born October 2, 1931 in Patchogue, N.Y. the son of Chester A. Smith, Sr. and Margaret Miller.

Chester had been a resident of Sugar Hill for the past 14 years coming from River Head, Long Island, N.Y.

Chester had served in the US Air Force. He and been employed by BrookHaven National Lab. for many years.

Chester was an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and flowers. He was a member of the St. James Sportsman Club and also served on the Sugar Hill Conservation Committee.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years Nancy E. (McMahon) Smith of Sugar Hill; a son Chester A. Smith, III of Medford, Long Island, N.Y.; 2 daughters Stacey Smith of Patchogue, N.Y. and Melody Goetz of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a step-son Matthew Pinto of Greensboro, N.C.; 3 step-daughters Doreen Cordova, South Hempstead, N.Y., Lorraine Pinto of Cranston, R.I. and Terri Napalitano of White Stone, N.Y.

Calling hours will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, December 8, 2008 using the Carriage House entrance of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM also at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Route 3, Boscawen, NH.
