Richard A. "Dick" Simmers

New Hampshire----- Simmers, Richard A. “Dick”, 69, of Laconia NH died peacefully at his home on December 2, 2005. He was born October 31, 1936 in Boston, MA the son of Joseph A. and Frances (Waldschmidt) Simmers.

He graduated from Laconia High School in 1954 and during his high school years he was employed at Sawyers Jewelry. He was elected Governor of New Hampshire Boy’s State his senior year and went on to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1958. He retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel after serving 19 years in the Army as a Special Forces Officer, an Airborne Ranger with Master jump wings who was stationed primarily in Germany.

Mr. Simmers returned to Laconia in 1997 after raising his children in NJ and had been employed as a driver for Concord Trailways and GMI. He loved to drive, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

Survivors include 2 sons Richard A. Simmers of Boxford, MA and Eric R. Simmers of Parsippany, NJ; 2 daughters Sabrina Londrigan of Hampstead, NH and Pamela Frie of Denville, NJ; 6 grandchildren Benjamin and Laura Londrigan both of Hampstead, Erich, Emily and Evan Frie all of Denville, NJ and Will Stapleton of Boxford, MA; a sister Mary Kilpatrick of Queensbury, N.Y.; also his fiancé Claudie Saunders of Laconia, daughters-in-law Lisa Stapleton of Boxford, MA, Christine Simmers of Parsippany, NJ, sons-in-law Erich Frie of Denville, NJ, and Stephen Londrigan of Hampstead, NH.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday December 7, 2005 from 4-6 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance. Services will follow calling hours at 6:00 PM.

Spring Burial will be in the family lot in Center Strafford Cemetery, Center Strafford.
