Arthur N. Hurd

Gilford-----Arthur N. Hurd, 75, of 37 Brookside Crossing, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, on Monday, December 5, 2005.

Mr. Hurd was born August 17, 1930 in Laconia, NH, the son of Benjamin and Vally (Bean) Hurd. Mr. Hurd was a life long resident of the Lakes Region and graduated from Laconia High School in 1949. While in high school, Mr. Hurd was a member of the Cross Country Track Team and was one of the best runners in the State. He also enjoyed skiing.

Mr. Hurd served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Scott & Williams for a number of years. He later was employed at Hebert Foundry, retiring from there after twenty-five years. After retirement, he was employed at MacNeil Worldwide in Laconia for 3 ? years.

In 1984, Mr. Hurd coached the Laconia Electric minor league baseball team. His son, James, was a member of the team and played first base, pitcher and left field. Mr. Hurd enjoyed fishing, walking, reading and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Jessie A. (Valliere) Hurd, of Gilford; a son, James D. Hurd, of Gilford; two daughters, Shirley M. Holmes and Kerri A. Ebright, both of Laconia; three grandchildren, BobbiJo Turcotte of Laconia, Tyler Hurd of Concord and Andrew Hurd of Laconia; a brother, Benjamin Hurd, Jr. of Franklin and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Dale A. Hurd, in 1959 and by two sisters, Anna Hobbs and Dot Hurd.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Burial will be at a later date at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
