Jean Merry
Send a condolence note

Sanbornton, NH - Jean Merry, 93, of Tower Hill Road, Sanbornton, NH, passed away peacefully on August 21 at Mountain Ridge in Franklin.

Jean lived most of her life in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York, raising her family and supporting her husband, Harold, who retired as District School Superintendent in Horseheads, NY, in 1968. She was predeceased by her husband in 1975 and daughter, Marlea, in 1977.

In 2006, Jean “came home” to New England, having been born in Holyoke, MA.     She moved to Sanbornton to be near her son, Dr. Martin Merry, and his wife, Elizabeth (Liz), her grandsons, Mike and Angus, and their families who were so loved by her.  Her happiest moments were visits from her great-grandchildren, Reese, Brayden and Luna, children of her beloved Mike and Nicole Merry and Angus and Michelle Merry.  She is survived also by her sister, Barbara, and many nephews, nieces and cousins who share in the sadness at the passing of a lady who was so deeply special to us all.

Her life in Sanbornton was enriched by the caring and supportive community of the Sanbornton Congregational Church.  So many members visited, and took her to doctor appointments, Seniors Lunches and the Taylor Community’s Prayer Shawl knitting circle.  Former pastor Patrice Ficken and a large group of very generous church members embraced her warmly into our local neighborhood.  The family is most appreciative of this wonderful spiritual support which was important to Jean in her final years, as well as the sensitive, caring support of the people of Lakes Region General Hospital, Mountain Ridge, the VNA of Franklin, and many friends, neighbors and personal caregivers.  Her life will be celebrated at memorial services in the Sanbornton Congregational Church on Wednesday, August 26, at 4 PM, and later in Horseheads, NY, prior to internment at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Odessa, NY, next to her mother, husband and daughter.

Those wishing may make donations in her memory to the charity of their choice.

Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H. is in charge of the arrangements.
