Laconia-----Robert Thomas McMath, 78, of 7 Tanglewood Lane, died, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the Concord Hospital after a period of failing health.

Born August 16, 1930 in Boston, Mass. to the late John A. and Marie G. (Mann) McMath, Bob lived in Somerville, Mass. as a young boy and moved to Winthrop, Mass. in his early teens where he graduated from Winthrop High School in 1948. Shortly after his marriage to Joyce Titus in 1958, they moved to Lynnfield, Mass. and on retirement in 1987 to Laconia.

Bob retired from Nynex (now Verizon) in 1987 after thirty-two years of service, first as a teletype repairman and then a manager in the special services division. Prior to his telephone company work, he had been employed at the Boston Naval Shipyard.
Bob was a former active member of Oak Hill Golf Course in Meredith and was one of the founders of Diamond View Association in Gilford where he enjoyed many wonderful summers on the lake.

Bob is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Joyce (Titus) McMath, of Laconia; sons, Thomas Douglas McMath and his wife, Lisa, of Merrimack and Paul Robert McMath and his wife, Anelyn, of Gilford; two grandchildren, Douglas McMath of Laconia and Leilani McMath of Gilford; a great-grandson, Braydon,; a brother, John P. McMath, of Peabody, Mass; a niece; three nephews and several grand nieces and nephews all of Massachusetts.

At Bob’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

A private internment service for family only will be conducted at Winthrop Cemetery, Winthrop, Mass.

The family will welcome friends at 7 Tanglewood Lane, Laconia on Sunday, August 9, 2009 from 2:00-4:00PM.

If so desired, memorial donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Laconia Salvation Army, 177 Union Ave., Laconia, N. H. 03246 or to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, N. H. 03246.
