Laconia-----Jean Ellen (Baker) Bengtson, 82, died at the Saint Francis Rehabilitation & Nursing in Laconia on Friday, August 29, 2008 following a very long period of declining health.

Jean was born December 11, 1925 in Derby, Conn., the daughter of Robert B. and Ellen (Palmer) Baker. A native and longtime resident of Ansonia, Conn., Jean graduated from the Ansonia High School in 1943 and the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She served her entire career as a Registered Nurse, largely at Griffin Hospital and Derby Nursing Home in Derby, Conn.

Having moved to Laconia in 1996, Jean was a member of the Congregational Church of Laconia, the Laconia Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Mary Butler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jean is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Karl R. and Jaylene K. Bengtson of Laconia, Kurt R. and Kimberley C. Bengtson of Franklin, Tenn. and Craig A. and Nicole C. Bengtson of Glastonbury, Conn.; a sister, Ruth Baker Luke, of Silver Spring, Md., seven grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Karl R. Bengtson, her parents, Robert B. and Ellen P. Baker and her grandfather, the late Dr. Scott R. Baker, M.D.

There will be no calling hours.

A service of celebration for Jean will be held at the Congregational Church of Laconia, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 11:00AM. Rev. Dr. Warren Bouton, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Congregational Church of Laconia Dorcas Fund, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N. H. 03246 for emergency assistance in the Laconia area.
