Eleanor Wallingford Spalding

Laconia-----Eleanor Wallingford Spalding, 96, formerly of 765 Union Avenue, died at the Belknap County Nursing Home on Monday, August 20, 2007. 

Eleanor was born December 18, 1910 in Milton, N.H. to Anne Metcaff Wallingford.  She was raised in Arlington, Mass. and moved to N. H. when she obtained employment as a nanny.  She met and married Edward Spalding in 1960.  Edward died in 1966 after a short illness.

Eleanor continued to live in the Laconia area, where she was active in the community.  She was a volunteer for the United Way and kept a scrapbook for them.  Eleanor had a talent for many crafts.  One was making beautiful afghans which she gave to her nieces.  She also made ornaments and such to share with those she loved.

Eleanor is survived by her four nieces, Sandra Desjardins and her husband, Wallace, of Maine, Jan Dufour and her husband, David, of Ohio, Judy Neptune and her husband, John, of Maine, Jill Beyer and her husband, Barry, of MN; a nephew, John Libby and his wife, Mary, of Texas; many grand nieces and grand nephews and a family of close friends, Marge and Frank Drzewiecki, Cindy Beede, Steve Drzewiecki and Ann Drouin all of Laconia and Judy Taylor and Dustin Coates both of Etna, N. H. and many friends at the Lake Village Apartments and the Belknap County Nursing Home where she happily resided for the past seven years.  She delighted them all by sending greeting cards on every birthday, Easter and Christmas which was hand signed by her right up until the time of her death.  She was preceded in death by her dearly beloved half brother, John Spencer Libby, Sr. who died in 1987 and by three uncles, Chester, Leonard and Roy.

A Calling hour will be held on Friday, August 24, 2007 from 9:00AM-10:00AM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Funeral Service will follow the calling hour at 10:00AM also at the Funeral Home.  Rev. Harry Woodley will officiate.

Private burial will be held in the family lot in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246
