James D. Rouhan, Sr.

Gilford, N. H.-----James D. Rouhan, Sr., 89, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, NH. on Friday, August 10, 2007.

Jim was born February 7, 1918 in Orange VT., the son of James and Ilma (Simpson) Rouhan. He graduated from Groton High School, Groton, VT in 1936.

Jim dairy farmed in northern Vermont for many years.  In 1956, he moved to southern California where he worked as crew chief for Rocketdyne, testing rocket engines for the space program. In 1960, Jim returned to Cabot, Vermont where he spent several more years dairy farming.  He then worked for IBM in Essex Junction where he retired in 1980.  In his retirement Jim enjoyed fishing and gardening in his homes in Ocala, FL and Walden, VT.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Pauline (McLam) Rouhan of Gilford, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Polly Rouhan of Gilford, NH; 6 grandchildren, Terri Forcier of Waterville, VT, James Rouhan III of Sevierville, TN, Bonnie Lavoie of East Gloucester, MA, Colleen Rouhan of Saint Albans, VT, Bridget Rouhan of Needham, MA and Sarah Rouhan of Gilford, NH; 4 great-grandchildren, Brandy and Scott Forcier both of Waterville, VT, Matthew and Connor Lavoie both of East Gloucester, MA and one great-great-granddaughter Claire Forcier of Waterville, VT; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and 2 sisters, Letha Sanville and Dorothy Haynes

A graveside memorial service will be held at the family lot in Groton Village Cemetery, Groton, Vermont on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 2:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eldercare Unit, Lakes Region General Hospital, 80 Highland Street, Laconia, N.H. 03246.
