Jean A. (Flanders) Sylvester

Gilford-----Jean A. (Flanders) Sylvester, 65, of 9 Sargent Place, died at her home on Tuesday, August 8, 2006.

         Mrs. Sylvester was born October 20, 1940 in Laconia, NH, the daughter of Reginald and Emma Pearl (Knapp) Smith.  She was adopted and raised by her grandparents, the late Roscoe W. and Maggie (Alyea) Flanders. 

Mrs. Sylvester attended school in Laconia and lived her entire life in the Lakes Region.  For many years, she was a waitress at several diners in the area, including Paugus Diner in Laconia and Riverside Diner and Gilly’s Diner in Bristol.  She was admired for her waitressing and cooking.  She also was employed at I.P.C. in Bristol and at Cooper Products in Laconia.

Mrs. Sylvester was a devoted PTA member and actively involved in the schools her children attended.  She loved to cook and was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of forty-one years, Victor “Fred” Sylvester, of Gilford; three sons, Mark R. Maltais of Southington, CT, Steven A. Sylvester of Laconia, NH and Timothy A. Sylvester of Bristol, NH; two daughters, Heidi L. Maltais of Farmington, NH and Vicki L. Sylvester of New Hampton, NH; eight grandchildren, Amanda and Samantha Hackett, Scott and Rachel Sylvester, Derek Maltais and Shawn, Haley and Drew Sylvester; her mother, Emma P. (Knapp) Boyce; four brothers, George Boyce, Robert “Butch” Boyce, Edward “Beaver” Boyce and Allan ”Todd” Boyce; five sisters, Penny (Flanders) Martel, Carolyn Adams, Mary Boisvert, Joyce “Crickett” White and Mable (Knapp) Libby and many nephews and nieces.  In addition to her grandparents, she was predeceased by her father, Reginald Smith, and by a brother, Robert Knapp.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 11, 2006 from 2:00-4:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia.

A Private Funeral Service for family and relatives will be held at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal Street, Manchester, NH 03101, the American Lung Association of NH, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110 or Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246. 

Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH is in charge of the arrangements.
