Ada A. MacDonald

Laconia-------Mrs. Ada A. MacDonald, 94, of 51 Lyford Street, died at the Golden View Healthcare Center, Meredith, on Monday, August 12, 2002. Mrs. MacDonald was the widow of John G. MacDonald who died in 1987.

Mrs. MacDonald was born September 10, 1907, in Wolcott, Vermont, the daughter of Charles A. and Sarah E. (McArthur) Hodgdon. She lived in Vermont as a child, moving to Laconia 80 years ago. She retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance after 30 years. She vacationed summers in Wells Beach, Maine. She was an avid reader and developed her home library into a thriving book business. She enjoyed painting and writing poetry, and loved birds, raising canaries, parakeets and myna birds.

Mrs. MacDonald was a faithful member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Laconia.

Survivors include two nieces, Louise Ada Rollins of Tilton and Mary Lou Baker of Laconia; a nephew, Steven D. Hodgdon of Hatley, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Lida Hodgdon of Concord; and a stepniece, Sue Jones of Hooksett. She was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Hodgdon, in 1998.

There will be no calling hours.

A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2002 at 11:00 AM in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Academy Street, Laconia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions or Benevolent Fund of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 115 Court St., Laconia, NH 03246.
