Elizabeth "Betty" P. Hutchinson

Laconia-----Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" P. Hutchinson, 87, of 17 Nutmeg Circle, died at her home on Thursday, August 8, 2002.

Mrs. Hutchinson was the widow of Richard H. Hutchinson who died in 1963.

Mrs. Hutchinson was born August 19, 1914 in Watertown, MA, the daughter of Ralph F. and Bertha (Chamberlain) Perry. She graduated from Watertown (MA) High School in 1931 and received her B.S. Degree from Massachusetts State University in Amherst, MA in 1935. She was a home economics teacher and taught for one year in Amherst, MA. In 1950, she moved to Laconia where she taught for 19 years before retiring in 1976.

Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of the Laconia-Gilford First United Methodist Church. She was a member and past president of the New Hampshire Home Economics Association, a member of the Lakes Region Retired Teachers Association, the N. H. Retired Home Economics Association, the National Retired Teachers Association, the Opechee Garden Club, the Laconia Salvation Army Auxiliary; A.A.R.P., the National Philanthro Educational Organization (P.E.O.) and was founder and Past President of the Lakes Region Chapter.

Giving is living, a profound expression describes a lifetime that is defined by sharing. Living is giving, a phrase full of challenge. Betty Hutchinson embodied these both with her caring.

Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Hutchinson of Phippsburg, Maine and David S. Hutchinson of Madison, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Christopher Hutchinson of Aspen, CO; Richard Hutchinson of Concord, NH and Julia Hutchinson-Smith of Mt. Vernon, NY; a great grandson, Lukas Hutchinson Smith of Mt. Vernon, NY; a sister, Irene Morrill, of Acton, MA and many nephews and nieces.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Gilford Avenue, Gilford on Monday, August 12, 2002 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Dr. Victoria Wood Parrish, pastor of the Church, will officiate. Private burial will be in the family lot at Union Cemetery, Laconia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 7408. Gilford, NH 03247-7408 or to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
