Ralph E. McGowan

Laconia---Ralph E. McGowan 78, of 57 Union Ave. died at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Tilton Saturday April 9, 2005.

Ralph was born September 4, 1926 in Laconia, the son of Burlon A. and Olive (Wilcox) McGowan. He had lived in the Laconia area most of his life. He served in the World War 11 in the US Army 25th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater and also served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.

Ralph was employed by Summit Metal Corporation in Laconia for more then 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a life member of the VFW Post #1670 of Laconia and also a member of the American Legion Wilkins-Smith Post # 1 also of Laconia.

Ralph enjoyed playing Alto and Tenor Sax for many years with varies groups and bands. He was a member of the United Baptist Church of Lakeport.

Survivors include his wife Barbara A. (Monson) McGowan of Laconia; a daughter Terry McGowan of Laconia; 2 sons David McGowan of Laconia and Daniel McGowan of Goffstown; a step-daughter Judith A. Matthew of New Hampton; 3 step-sons Gene H. Carter of Dorchester, MA, John P. Carter of Haymarket, VA and Kevin M. Carter of Gainsville, VA; 5 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, 3 nephews and 2 nieces. Beside his parents he was predeceased by a brother Burlon F. McGowan and a sister Dorothy (McGowan) Barrette.

Calling hours will be held at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia Wednesday, April 13, 2005 from 6-8 PM using the Carriage House entrance.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 11:00 AM at the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, 23 Park Street Lakeport. The Rev. Sharron Lamothe, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Laconia.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, 23 Park Street, Lakeport, NH 03246 or to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Activities Fund, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
